I don't want the bamboo as it is considered a pesky weed in this area. My former next door neighbor LOVED the stuff and planted it to cover his entire backyard. It migrated over into my wooded back yard and is quite pesky and difficult to stop. We had it all backhoed out about 10 years ago and were able to keep it out of the yard for a good while. Now since we travel so much, it has started migrating again. The neighbor who planted the stuff has moved and now the new property owner would love to get rid of it. He started work on it, but it is a very slow and laborious project. I suspect we'll all die owning bamboo that we dislike immensely. Oh, and if you cut it down, it leaves sharp spikes. We have to dig it out and then try to keep cutting back the shoots while they're infants and then dig out more roots. It is neverending. We'd love to feed someone's pandas.

Watch where you plant it though, some of mine are 60' high and in a strong wind, they can whip the crap out of buildings etc.
