owning an expensive/exotic car

thnx NIN, i wanted to hear from an owner all day.
I think that if you enjoy something, the money is irrelevant. You should drive a nice car because you like what it offers, not because everyone else at the soccer-mom club has it or thinks its cool.
I don't think I'll buy a really high end exotic unless I win the lottery or something. If I do well, I may get an NSX some day.
Another car I'll really consider is that new Tesla roadster. That thing just looks like it's a lot of fun to drive...

my reason for asking was, if you can have fun with a car and not have it cost much. then compare that with having fun but paying a lot more for it and worrying etc. then there must be something substantial to offset the cost like extra pride or positive attention, special favors, boosted ego, etc.
Odds are if you are here, you're a car guy. Not to say everyone who has an S2000 is a car guy, and not to say that everyone on s2ki is a car guy, but its a safe assumption.
That out of the way, I'd say a big part of it depends on your geography. If you're living in LA, no one's going to blink at a 360. They've already seen a couple today. If you live in the middle of nowhere in Minnesota, you're going to get gapers. All depends on what you want at that point, as a fellow car guy, the last reason I'd buy a car is for the status of it and for people to stare. I bought my S because its fun to drive; its not very expensive (in the grand scheme of cars) and lets face it, the Honda name doesn't typically drop the panties.
I know of people (friends of my father's, father's of my friends) who make rediculous amounts of money and have picked up anywhere from near exotics to full fledged exotics. Many were disapointed, none were car guys.
If you're thinking of turning something special into a daily driver, you have the back tolerance (most high end sports cars do not ride like a Volvo, but you prolly know that), the patience, the wallet to support it, but most of all the mindset that its just a car, then you'll like it. I hate to say anything from the house of Enzo is just a car, but realistically, it is. You can't have your day/week/month/year ruined because something happened to it, because even if nothing happens to it you'll be dreading it, and you cannot be happy while walking around terrified.
