Pay/benefits vs satisfaction
2 sounds like military a lot to me also, which means free medical for your family for life as well (kids to 23, if in school). Which is a HUGE thing as we all know how much health insurance is.
However, I'd still go job one assuming no one in the family has a chronic thing that needs constant health care. Dreading work everyday just makes your hate life, for me at least.

They both sound like crappy options, but it seems like it would be hard to pass up your DREAM job. Try it. If it doesn't work out, then you can move on to something else.
Although, personally, I'd have a hard time with just 2 weeks vacation each year for the next 25 years.

1. No question. You're not likely to stay in either job for the full time, anyways. So do what you love.
I used to fly airplanes, now I fly an airliner, full of living people who expect me get them from point A to B safely, flying a metal tube at 37,000ft at Mach B0, well the pay and benfits have gone to shit, so now I hate my ****** job
ALWAYS go for the pay, this way you can do the things you love on your days off
Option 2 is an institution that has 17 billion dollars at it's disposal. The particular sector that i would be working for has never layed anyone off in its 300 year existance. That defined pension plan is not going anywhere. The current employees are "grandfathered" into the system.
Were i asked this question 5years ago, i would def shoot for option 1, but given the state of the economy, i am not so sure right now.

It's hard to say. People think I'm crazy because I'm trying to become a pilot. Right now I fix aircraft and make almost triple what I would flying them, but it's what I want to do. It all depends on what's more important to you. In your case, the money doesn't seem to make much of a difference. After taxes and deductions, you won't even notice the 4k difference (about $77/week), and with over time you can actually make an extra 30k in job 1. With 30k extra, you can pretty much buy any benefits you would need. 1/4 of college isn't that much considering your combined income. Plus there's also always grants, loans, and scholarships for school (unless you are trying to be a pilot...). Sounds like you have to weigh the pros and cons for each.
If you end up not liking one of them, you could always change jobs.

Money=Happiness, dont believe me? you must never had the stress of being able to feed yourself and put food on the table, or not be able to put gas in your car?
Not being able to feed yourself/put food on the table, because you don't have any money? Then forage, hunt, scrounge, beg. Humans were around for how many thousands of years without a safeway, get over yourself and stop being lazy. Or just die, whichever works.
Not able to put gas in your car? Sell car, buy cheaper car? Sell car, buy bus pass? Ask for money?
At least it reconfirms my belief that the lazy, lavish lifestyle that we've built in America has penetrated so deeply to the core that buying groceries is our litmus test for Money=Happiness. Go us!

We get it you're not happy with your job. But if you really think that Money=Happiness then you should do some soul searching.

wow. First i think you need to understand where Joey is coming from. Money is gr8 but percieved happiness is what we all want. Joey is just saying that that JOB that you think is your dream job and you might be very happy with at the end of the day is a JOB. and you might be very unhappy with it. it might not be the dream job you thought it would be. Especially if you have to pay for health ins.; etc, and you have no money left. Also if you foraging and hunting ; etc, how are you happy at all? he cant give the basic necessities to his family. Don't tell me hes suppose to go out and hunt. Lets be realistic here.
the people that say happiness over money already have the money part. go live in the projects and than tell me if you want to reconsider your choice.
