Default PayPal users BEWARE!!

I found this on another site I visit and also received the E-mail in my "inbox."

"I received the below quoted email yesterday and noticed the web address quickly change a couple of times after clicking on their link, so I suspected a spoof. I then went directly to my PayPal account and found an alert regarding these type of phony emails designed to send you to a fake web site and attempt to capture your personal and credit card info.

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Dear paypal user, We would like to inform you that we are upgrading our server to install a better protection software. So please click here and fill in the registration form again to renew your account. Paypal Administration."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These emails are not from PayPal and responding to them may put your account at risk. Please protect your PayPal account by paying close attention to the emails you receive and the websites you visit."

If you got this E-mail, trash it.

Jonathan

Here's an earlier list of similar scams that used to be 'sticky'.

This is common sense stuff, guys. No company is EVER going to contact you and ask for your registration information again.

Had a similar thing happen to me with Ebay. The link looked very real, page came up with no web address though, but every link on page went to the corresponding Ebay page. I knew Ebay wouldn't send a security page via email, so I checked the source, and the web address pointed to some free web hosting site. I quickly contacted ebay security and they investigated it and had the site shut down that same day. NO REPUTABLE COMPANIES HAVE YOU FILL OUT USER PASSWORD INFO VIA AN EMAIL LINK.

BTW, this sort of scam is called "phishing", and attacks rates are soaring.
