I tried doing a search but couldn't find any topics concerning them. I am looking to buy a PDA and would like to hear from users pros and cons reagrding specific ones. I will use it primarily for business and am not all that interested in net capability. I'm debating between Handspring and Palm right now and have checked out the Visor Platinum, Edge, and Prism. I've also checked out the Palm Vx, VIIx, and m500/505. I haven't really given ones using Windows/CE (?) much thought as they seem ot be playing catch up.

Any help or comments would be appreciated.

s2ko,

I use a Palm V. I really like the styling and the rechargeable batteries. The Palm m505 is suppose to have the same styling, but it also has an expansion port. I don't really read e-mail on my Palm and use it for the functions it was designed for (address book, calendar, to do list, memo). I'm extremely happy with it. I also play a few games on it when I'm bored on plane flights.

The Visors are nice, but they are somewhat clunky looking. The Visors do have better expansion capabilities (expansion port that can be used for memory, MP3 players, cell phone, etc.)

One of my business partners just bought a Pocket PC type product. It starts up a little slower than the palm, but the advantage it has is that all the applications that you use on the Pocket PC are 100% compatible with applications you use on a PC. Basically, if you use Outlook on the PC, a version of Outlook also exists for the Pocket PC and is run exactly the same with the same features. With the Palm and the Visor, if you wanted to synchronize with Outlook, you would need a program that translated between the two. A drawback to the Pocket PCs are that they are pretty big in size in comparison to the Palm.

My wife has a palm. I really like the cassiopia though. It would be one of my wish items if I didn't have so many for the s2k

I use the Jornada 720 (It's a clamshell design with a keyboard, albeit small, built in) and LOVE it!! Has a built in modem and a great display. The keyboard takes some getting used to but it works extremely well.

I use a palm V.
If you want windows applications....why use windows CE? Get yourself a laptop!!!
There is nothing fansy about Palm OS. It's simple and straight forward. It's everything PDA should be, and you can beam anyone with a palm. How cool is that?

Oh yeah, you can also pay $75 for a coach leather case for it to go with your coach brief case and coach wallet.

I have to agree with FP - the Palm is simple, lightweight, slim, and I too have a V, which doesn't require batteries - it just sits in its cradle, syncs and recharges in no time at all.

I recently picked up a Delorme GPS plugin system - haven't tried it out though, so its been collecting dust for a few weeks now. That's about the only thing that I would want to add to the functionality of a PDA. its pretty much a techie/overpriced dayrunner if you ask me.

a friend of mine has the Compaq iPaq and it is great. its about twice the size in depth, a little heavier too and slightly taller. he plugs in an 802.11 card and walks around / drives around Austin for wireless points - basically, the wireless hubs you can get at Best Buy, or anywhere else - and he taps into that, taking the minimal bandwidth off of the hub to the network, and connecting and scribbling away AIM messages to me. Neat? yes, but an inexpensive tethered CDPD mode for AIM/email would be much more efficient IMO. of course you can hook up an OmniSky port to a Palm V and get email that way - they work great.

/my two cents.

I was looking at getting the GPS attachment as well. There is a rebate if you buy the Handspring and the Magellan GPS.

GPS for palm 5?
Can someone describe in more detail or give me a url?
I love the GPS on my TLS....but the stook doesn't have one.
I doubt the palm attachment would be anything like it, but I'd like to know about it.
Thanx...
