people with touchscreen phones,
don't know about if its faster... Itsy easy to type on.. I have a touch for work.. Was actually gonna buy one unlocked for personal use but eh.. i've got one now. lol
I recommend unlocking it and loading the HTC orignal rom on it. If you need any help just PM me. That way you get Wifi on it.. and that means you can use skype and other features on a wireless network... lots of cool stuff you can do with a windows mobile unit..

you can load other programs on it.. but i don't recommend it.. I know a month ago if you unlocked an iphone and then sync it with the newest version of itunes it would brick the phone.. pretty much be useless. Apple made a big deal about unlocking it due to the software being intelectual property of Apple and goes against their aggreements.. Don't know if it still does it now though..
I do have one and here's how it works in a bit more detail: you use WiFi and go to jailbreakme.com in Safari, click install, tap a confirmation dialog and 12-15 seconds later your phone goes to standby mode where you slide across the bottom to get to the home buttons and apps. It's effortless to install and cannot in any way brick your iPhone. To get back to 100% Apple software you sync your data like usual in iTunes and then you click on Restore, which loads the newest OS back on and resyncs your data. So worst case, you're out about an hour.
And what you get for your 15 seconds is pretty damn amazing for free. Here's some stuff that I have installed, all free:
- Multiple-client Instant Messaging (AIM, ICQ, Y!, etc) that is fast, works perfectly, and can stay active even while your phone is in standby
- Push-email over IMAP which makes email happen as quickly as a Blackberry
- SendSong to use any sound as your ringtone (instead of paying $0.99 for 30 seconds on iTunes)
- eBook reader and free books -- the screen is so sharp it puts the Kindle to shame, plus is color and has beautiful fonts
- Solitare that has no buttons -- you drag the cards around on the screen. You have to see it to get it, but it's amazing how well it works and really should come pre-installed
- Customizing programs to change out every image on the phone, apply themes, new wallpapers, etc. With such a great screen it's nice to be able to get away from the default imagery once in a while.
There's several hundred apps available for free. Some suck, others will definitely be commercial products when the SDK comes out in February. What you realize when you Jailbreak the phone is that it is an astonishing computer and a good phone, in that order. The screen and touch functionality are amazing and keep getting better as people write new apps for the phone.
The main reasons not to get an iPhone, imo, are these:
- Expensive - $400, $60 month, $75 activation fee. For a phone. Ouch.
- Edge is slow - 45+ seconds to load nytimes.com. About 8 seconds when on wi-fi though.
- Slow to make a call, in that you have to tap several times: phone icon, favorites button, name
- You will make typos galore - The bugs are still being worked out on the keyboard and to make matters worse you can't get rotate the phone 90 degrees to get the big keyboard in most apps (such as text messaging and email -- that's really shortsighted)
But the iPhone is without a doubt the best phone ever made and will be for a while. It's not perfect but it's the closest thing there is. The screen, battery life, call quality, voicemail, email, threaded text messaging, and web browser are peerless and the phone slides into any pocket or purse since it's the thickness of a RAZR and doesn't have buttons or an antenna to catch on.
(There are two types of unlocking your phone. One is Jailbreaking, described above, and the other is traditionally unlocking that allows you to use the phone on carriers that support SIM cards. The former I recommend, the latter is a bit risky for me since it requires you to change the hardware and cannot be undone.)
I-Phone is a real nice phone and I would recommend it if:
They built it with 3G
Didn't lock the phones software and to a carrier (I can be unlocked.. But its still illegal)
Was able to expand your storage space with external media (SD etc)
PRICE... Seriously Its a nice phone... but for cheaper you can get something that offers more..
Web app actually supported Flash.... How could they release something that didn't support Flash.. I mean seriously...
If they fixed that stuff.. I would recommend it.. But right now.. save your money and grab a touch.

On my way to work this morning, I saw a lady with the AT&T touch on the train and I asked her if I can take a look at it. First thing I noticed, it weighs a lot more than my 8125. And I thought my phone was heavy. This thing is like a brick. The finish of the tilt is a lot better and the sliding top piece to reveal the QWERTY kb is a lot more stable than my 8125. It seems like this is the first smart phone for this lady so I'm not quite sure if she's 100% correct when she told me that the tilt has a full web browser. If that's the case, I would go with the tilt and live with the weight of the phone.
I've had the HTC touch for a couple days now. I love the phone. It's pretty fast, and does everything.
I thought it would be really difficult to use with only a touch interface, but it works amazingly well even with my big fingers.

You should take a gander at this review Cnet did between iPhone and Voyager...
