Default people watching

im sitting at a coffee shop at my college campus and i cant concentrate on my translation. i often find this is the case...put me around a window or somewhere with a good view of a popular place and i cant stop noticing people around me..expressions, mannerisms, voices, conversations..whatever it is.

anybody else afflicted by this curiosity. one notices the weirdest most senseless things about people.

Nope, I can pretty much ignore people or pay attention as I like. However, I did experience a very strange phenomenon when I worked and lived overseas (in Turkey) for 3 1/2 years.

When overseas for a while and immersed in a culture that speaks another language, you pick up a habit of tuning in whenever you hear your native language spoken (English). I found that when I would come home to visit and for a while after I returned, that I could not shut this off. When I was in a large crowd, I would hear everyone's conversation around me and as I passed them.

It was really pretty interesting.

I people watch but in my head I am ripping them to shreds.

Look at that dudes shirt! Nice wig buddy! That girl should not be in a belly shirt! That kind of thing.

Yes, I enjoy making random people feel uncomfortable with my blank stare.

That's exactly why I can't study in the library or our 24 study room. I study in my room with the compie turned off.
