Default Photoshop Guru's, need your help...

OK, I've got 2 questions, humor me please .

1. Why is this showing up on my computer?

It's the file on the left, it looks like a ghost icon of Photoshop, if I double click on it Photoshop opens, but then I get this...

These little "ghost icons" just showed up one day, and there's one of them for every picture folder on my computer (one per folder no matter how many pictures in it). Any ideas how I can get this to stop happening or what's causing it?

2. Why can't I do a Print Screen from a DVD?

I'm trying to do a few screen-captures from the movie "Contact", but after hitting Print Screen and Ctrl-V in Photoshop, all I get is a black screen. I know it's trying to save something because I can see the "letterbox" lines, but the picture itself won't show up, it's like the picture really isn't there, or it's actually a projection of some kind, so Print Screen only sees black.

Anyway, any help will be much appreciated .

The PPThumbs.ptn is apparently generated by the Paper Port scanner software. It's probably marked as a hidden file, which is why it's showing up ghosted.

You may have recently turned on Show Hidden Files (in Windows Explorer select Tools/Folder Options/View look under the Hidden Files and Folders item) which is why you didn't see them before.

The file will contain thumbnails of all the images in that folder. Windows generates similar files called Thumbs.db if you're using the Thumbnail folder view.

Regarding your DVD capture issues, the DVD image is generally drawn (by your video card) as an overlay on top of a blank window area. If you do a screen-grab you get what the operating system is drawing, which in the case of the area where the DVD is being shown is nothing. Some DVD player software lets you do screengrabs properly, nVidia's nvDVD software springs to mind.
