I have a couple of pictures or logos that are in bmp. format...is there a simple way to get this into a vector format? Is vector format through photoshop? I'm obviously sort of clueless on the subject, but whenever I want to get these logos blownup or put on a sign, everyone tells me bmp format has too much distortion to it. Any help would be appreciated on how I can do this...

Thanks.

Depends what exactly you need. A photoshop .EPS file is a type of vector file, but most people, when they're looking for printable graphics stuff, are looking for a different type of vector file. The answer on that type is no, there's no easy way to convert it.

If an .EPS will do, then simply import it into photoshop and hit "save as" and change it to eps.

I'm no export, but by chance by jogging someones memory, can the bmp be rasterized, then saved as a vector?

a ,bmp is already rasterized. No you can not change any complex images into vector images like you are asking. A vector image is a mathametical equation used to represent a shape. The size is adjusted by changing a variable and what not, and that is why you can not do it with complex shapes like you are asking. The shapes in questions are not actually shapes, they simply consist of a bunch of dots on you computer and it reads them as such. if you have any other questions feel free to pm me and i will try to help.

Adobe has/had a product that would turn a scanned bitmap image into vector line art, a real time saver. The product is called Streamline, although I don't know that Adobe still supports it. It was great for getting sketches of logos into the computer.

For an example of the scalability of bitmaps, open your bitmap and zoom it as large as you can. It's going to look like a Japanese porn movie - pixelated. Vector images will scale as large or as small as you need with no distortion.

Cheers -

Depending on the complexity of the original image, a trace image can be made in either Photoshop or Illustrator. I find that manually tracing usually works best. Post the pics that you want converted and I can see how difficult the job may or may not be.
