I'm thinking about trading my 4Runner in on a fullsize pickup so I can haul motorcycles a bit easier (not to mention that I want a V8, leather, etc.). I'm leaning towards a Toyota Tundra Ltd. extended cab w/ 2wd, and was hoping to get some opinions from the full size pickup truck owners on this forum. Feel free to also post comments/experiences as well.

I love the Lightning, but I need an extended cab. It would be an obvious choice if only it was available that way. Driving fun is a nice bonus, but practicality is more important, esp. since I have plenty of fun w/ my other toys!

Sounds like you need a full time long bed... otherwise I would tell you to check out the new Avalanch. That is what my next truck will be.

For an everyday driver the Toyota is a little smaller and easier to park. Forget it if you ever need to carry a person in the back seat, IMO the back seat sucks. The F150 is becoming dated and the Chevy drives better. At one point I wanted the Toyota and my wife wanted the Chevy so we bought neither. We do both agree on the Avalanche. They're available now in FL., TX., and CA. We've looked at 7 of them in the last few days and we're sold on the truck. They drive better than a regular truck (like a Burb), will tow a loaded 3 horse trailer or race car, can carry a family or or a load of plywood. I would check it out, it should carry a couple of bikes with no problem. My wife loves the looks but I think it's kind of funky, almost a love it or hate it kind of thing.

It depends on what you want. A Ford or Chevy probably has more room than the Tundra. But, living in Texas, almost everyone I work with drives trucks, and it truly amazes me the problems that they have with their Fords, Chevys and Dodges. MANY owners of Chevys had had their transmissions replaced around 60K miles (almost always the planetary gears in the tranny). Ford guys have had a few transmissions, brake problems, multiple recalls, and electrical problems. The Dodge boys seem to be at both ends of the spectrum: either have had several major problems or a few minor repairs in 100K miles. I am not biased on domestic or imports - they both have their places. If I were to haul a 4 horse trailer, I would not even consider a Toyota. But, for an everyday driver, I need something reliable, and based on comments and experiences at work, I'll stick with Toyota.

My Toyota will haul my motorcycle with no problems, but it is small and not very luxurious. It has given me 100K trouble free miles in 10 years, and I will buy another one if it ever wears out.
