Yeah? I'd welcome it! It would be a hell of a lot cheaper than being jacked for $1000 + insurance surcharges because some asshole NJ trooper didn't get his Wheaties one morning. Hell, the most they'd get out of my wallet is a hundred bucks!

I don't know what fantasy land you live in, but if revenue enhancement had anything to do with safety, there are two very simple solutions:

1) Don't sell cars in NJ that go over 65mph. Easily done by the manufacturers. If a car is caught with a software hack it gets confiscated and crushed.

OR

2) Instead of stalking people in unmarked cars or hiding in the bushes, put the cops in the middle lane of the NJ Turnpike at rush hour with lights on doing 65mph.

Of course it's not about safety, is it? It's about the millions of dollars they rake in, and all the jobs that go along with the ticket industry. Speed limits on highways are about money, and nothing else.

that's what I've always been incessantly harping about since I first started driving

if they really wanted people to slow down, they'd park their patrol cars in plain view instead of sneaky spots behind shrubbery, etc.

You have never seen a highspeed accident have you? Cars will go faster than some peoples ability to control that is why there are Speed limits.

Just because all you have in your wallet is $100 doesn't mean thats all they will get they may throw you in jail till your buddys pony up some funds.

bah...what kind of retarded moron can't control their car on a straight 6-lane freeway at anything higher than 65mph?

whoever can't probably deserves to be wiped out of the gene pool anyways

Why do you guys keep forgetting that a infraction is being committed which is what the ticket is being issued for?
The problem is there's so much leniency there. In a lot of places, you can safely drive 10-15 mph over the limit without any problems. Others if you go 3 mph over you are getting a ticket. If there's limits, enforce them.

There was a video link someone sent me a while back (hell, might of been on s2ki really don't remember) of a team of people that wanted to portray the point that some speed limits don't make sense. They got on a three lane freeway in California that has a 55 mph limit which the flow of traffic is usually 15-20 above that. They then lined up, and all drove exactly 55. They had several camera people staged on over passes, and when they came by it looked like something out of Mad Max. You had people behind them in one giant wave, people honking, swerving, passing on the shoulder, etc. Granted, they were impeding the flow of traffic which can be a ticket, but they were driving exactly the speed limit.

I dunno, in 10 years and approximately 150,000 miles of driving I've never gotten a speeding ticket. Hell I've only been pulled over 3 times, and I drive over the limit as a general rule.

Seems the trick is to learn when its appropriate to run 10 over, and when you absolutely have to stay at the number.

some speed limits are jokes... they really arent fitted for the road. i bet you if me and a couple of friends ran exactly 65 on hwy 80, the traffic would get backed up. everyone drives 80 on 80... even the trucks speed sometimes... everyone would be honking and yelling and doing stupid $hit like passing in the shoulder. thus i believe speed limits are jokes... unless you're in a very curvy pass/freeway.

You have no answers at all, do you? You have this amazing capability to completely ignore the facts and go off on a tangent about something trivial and totally unrelated to the discussion at hand.

I don't see whats the big deal. $10 is not a lot of money to begin with. Also I don't see anything wrong with rewarding people for their good work. I receive performance-based bonuses per quarter, cops should too.

Speed limits for the most part are stupid. IMO cars are safely travel at 75MPH in most 55MPH zones. The only speed limits that are legit are 15MPH school zones. The lawmakers keep the speed limit low and stupid because its an easy money maker.
