Places that have open sewers smell bad, no amount of camcorders or flat panel displays will change that.

I hear ya Mingster, although I have never been to Taiwan I know that something (aka Shing) pretty damn good came outta there and I'm not going to put down a country that had a big influence in his life. Hopefully one day I can make the trip. Wanna come??

 

Seems as though some people do not realize there are different cultures and living standards in this world. Having spent over 18 years overseas in the military I can definately point you to some places that would make you think twice about going back.

We Amercans are spoiled with a five star mentality. God forbid if we could not have hot and cold running water for a day.

If more people would tour the country side of foreign lands they would understand the people and the culture better. By staying in the tourist trap cities you never really get to know the place for real.

Ah, generalizations are necessary or we'd all be talking like his post would have read, "While standing at the corner of 56th and Broad I noticed the air smelled a lot like the dog sh!t from my neighbor's german shepard." Very nice, didn't generalize the smell to the entire street let alone the whole country and certainly didn't offend any dog lovers who feel their dog's shi!t doesn't stink. The post led to very interesting discussion of language and comparison of people's perspectives on different parts of the world.

 

Wow this thread is completely stupid. Sorry you took offense, but he seemed in no way offensive. Yea he bluntly (why beat around the bush?) said it stunk, so what? Some places in Dallas stink. If someone posts on the boards that Dallas stinks like shit, I would tell them to go to a better part of Dallas, but don't start a thread asking people to vote 1 on a thread, that's just childish. I can see you have pride in your country, but you should try to take it with a grain of salt.

 

Maybe we should just start threads like cuba sucks, china sucks...

Maybe he should learn to post a message that wouldn't lead people to take it personally.
