metaphors, cliches (sp.?), i love them, i wish there was a book that had all the cliches with the stories of their origins!
- mind your p's and q's (pints and quarters)
- something smells rotten in Denmark
- between you, me and the lamppost
- rule of thumb (i know the origin of this one, it's not nice!)
- raining cats and dogs
- sleep tight
- costs an arm and a leg
...stuff like that, most of the origins are pretty amusing too.
