In Praise of Escort
Well I know the battle between the Valentine and Escort factions will never end, but here's just one more reason I love Escort products.
I'd been having trouble with the windshield mount bracket on my Passport 8500, apparently this is a well known issue, the plastic tab that engages the metal bracket in a certain slot had become loose over time, and I found that if my S2K hit a bump of any reasonable size, the metal bracket would bounce out of it's proper slot and I'd notice the detector was then pointing up at the sky.
I'd thought I'd licked the problem by bending the bracket to a better angle, but the problem returned, so I called Escort to see if they would help. My detector was 13 months old, one month out of warranty. I explained the problem over the phone to them, and told them the unit was 13 months old, but they still honored the warranty and asked that I send it back to them to be "re-cased". One week later, I have my detector back with all-new top case, bottom case, rear panel, front panel and new volume potentiometer. They also upgraded the internal antenna to current specs. I looked inside and noticed they'd attached a new rubber pad to the plastic piece that engages the windshield mount bracket so hopefully that problem is solved permanently.
All this done at no charge, on an out-of-warranty unit. This is a company I can deal with

I also have a Passport 8500, my third Escort, and have had excellent dealings with them. My suction cups wear out from the heat and they send me new ones, each time with a new mounting bracket, for practically free.
