Default Professional RIP OFF merchants

Hi Guys,

Just recently, I was scammed out of just over $7,500 by a couple living in Baton Rouge. They still have my money...

My question is: What would you do if you were RIPPED OFF to a similiar amount. Please share your experiences - maybe I can get some ideas on what to do in my situation.

Sol

Well, asuming that I didn't voluntarily hand my money over for nothing, and truely got taken, I would contact the police.

Your sketcy details aren't really enough to give you even a halfway decent answer

Well, in my particular situation, the police have been contacted.

A detective replied back and told me that it didn't appear to be fraud (the people in question were just slow to make delivery. He did mention that they had 'past' criminal records, thoug), and that there was little he could do.

So, I'm looking to be a little more creative now.

Please share any experiences, or 'what would you do' if faced with a similiar situation?

The law is the only way to go; either by contacting the police or filing a law suit.

Not enough info to really answer your questions.

As for the thread title, I was really pissed but there's nothing one can do with most professtional scams. I was ripped off on Yahoo Auctions many years ago for $900. I paid by Western Union and the guy (with fake ID) claimed the money and sent nothing. Yahoo's investigators agreed that it was fraud and gave me back $250, less $75 for their investigation of course. Western Union said they paid money to whom I told them to so I was SOL. Sucks, but you live and learn.

Give us more info. Maybe you should hire a private investigator. We have no idea if there was a crime or not and can not help you beyond generalizations.

If I had the money, I would definatley hire a P.I.

But, it doesn't make much sense to spend $10,000 to get back $7,500.

The story is long and complicated, which is why I haven't gone into it. However, I am looking for a way out.

I'm looking for some more solutions!

I guess continue working with the police and consider a lawsuit. I'm not a lawyer but I believe this may be considered mail fraud, which is a very serious charge.

you could post more about it, so the rest of us don't get ripped.????

I got ripped by some guy on this board for some S2000 wheels... luckily i ended only being about $150 out of pocket in the end..... but that same guy had ripped off a couple of other members before me.... had they posted it, i would never have dealt with the guy....

goodluck.....

I know its being mentioned before but we desperately need some sort of buyer/seller rating or feedback system here.

I just read your story, you got plain out ripped, and didn't take any steps to protect yourself.

Sadly, if the police can't / won't do anything, they you're pretty much out of luck.

I don't assume you have any written contracts? I'd chalk this one up to a learning experience and move on
