Default Progressive Insurance - experiences please.

Looking for an alternative to State Farm. Shopping around to see what's out there. Just read in my MBA book that Progessive is #3 in the market right now.

I have 3 cars and a home insured thru SF and want to find out if they are truly giving me a great rate. My wife and I have no accidents for more than 5-6 years and no speeding tickets ever.

Thanks!

Progressive was more expensive than state farm for the same exact coverage (as far as i could tell) not by much about $300 a year. If your a good driver over 25 state farm gives a very competative rate. I wouldn't switch unless I was going to save over $700

I have progressive and would not recommend them to anyone. They're cheap (I think the only company that is consistently cheaper is Geico), but unfortunately you get what you pay for.

If you ever have a claim, Progressive will do everything in their power (legal or illegal) to avoid paying on a claim. If they do agree to pay your claim, they will stop at nothing to pay the absolute bare minimum, ie. used parts, unreliable/untrustworthy mechanics & body shops, unrealistic estimates on your damage.

I had two claims recently; one due to my car being stripped in my driveway, and the second involving a hit & run in the parking lot @ work. For both claims, the worst part was dealing with Progressive.

It sucks because they're supposed to be on your side seeing as how they're your insurance company, but in all my dealings with them, it felt like they were against me.

I have a very long story of the details of my car being stripped & the battle with Progressive to get my car repaired, but I'll save it for a PM if you're still considering switching.

High Point (used to be Prudential) has been good with my family for the past 15 years.

I've dealt with Progressive before with claims, and they weren't bad. State Farm, OTOH, are a bunch of assholes who would rather not pay EVER than make things easy for their insureds. They make every effort to avoid paying on a claim, even if you are both insured and claimant. I have no idea why they have any business at all. For most people they are quite a bit more expensive for the same level of coverage, and are just a royal pain in the ass to deal with all around.

I'm not saying Progressive is the best ever or anything, but I'd take almost anything over State Farm if I were you.

I was once in an accident, and the other person's insurance was paying for the damage. The first thing the body shop asked was "I hope they don't have State Farm, because we won't work with them."

I have USAA, and if you are qualified, they're an excellent insurer.

I had the WORST experience dealing with State Farm when my '95 Integra was stolen. They stalled and stalled and wouldn't give me credit for having ABS brakes unless I showed them the window sticker. I asked the agent to call any Acura dealer so they'd know all GS-Rs came with ABS brakes but they wouldn't. After turning my place upside down, I was able to find the window sticker and get my money. After that experience, never again. After 10 years of paying my premiums and without any claims, that's how they treated me.

Looks like a mixed bag for State Farm. I have been insured with them for almost 6 years now and like I mentioned no my fault accidents or tickets. When I owned the 01 Prelude, one time I was sitting at a tool booth waiting to pay tool and became the first car in a 4 car collision (last car to be hit). The car that hit the 1st car ran thru the EZpass booth. None of us had seen the car well enough to describe. Anyways, SF mad me pay my $500 deductible on the collision and did not try hard enough to get the person. I felt I should not have had to pay the $500. The immediate car that hit me, their insurance policy should have paid that. I am still a little ticked off about this!

I have Progressive, and have been with them for 8 years. Ive only had claims from hitting animals, and they in now way shorted me on my aftermarket parts that the deer, and rabit i hit destroyed. They were also very fast about it. I cannot get on to any other co though due to my driving record, so i cant really say anything about another co, except State Farm. I would not go with them. I was in an accident, was not my fault. Lady rearended me, and they didnt want to pay anything to me in the end for pain&suffering. I had pretty decent whiplash and probably couldve gone to court for more, but didnt want to drag it out forever with them so i took what i could get.
