Pros and Cons of powdercoating.
According to powder coaters I've spoken to clear powder coating eventually turns slightly yellow after prolonged exposure to sunlight. To a large degree this why it's not used on balcony balustrading and why I don't use it on gearknobs. Coloured powder coating does not suffer from the same problem I'm told.
The issue is really what it's being applied to I guess. Anodising is a preferable alternative IMO but if it's for a non-alloy (iron) product you don't really have that choice. Chipping might be a problem on a car component where it's subject to hits from stones etc but generally speaking I think it's a reasonably durable application and would be fine for under the hood applications etc.

I have powdercoated stock wheels in gunmetal. They look AWESOME!!! pictures but while i was on the highway there was a rock/screw or something like that in the road and it got kicked up by the front tire and hit to back rim causing a small chip. you cant really see it but its there... just be careful at high speeds and youll love the rims!
Most important thing when powder coating is that they do the wash properly, and that they bake at the right temperature..
If this is done right, Powder Coating is very very strong.

i cant really think of any cons with powder coating, its stronger than regular paint, what else can ya ask for.
the only con, if you really call it one, to coating the stock wheels is you cant do the center caps. no big deal if your doing black or even gunmetal but i did mine bronze and could not find a spray paint to match the caps with. so my powder coated rims were capless.
