Ps2: Ace Combat 4 Question. . .
Is anyone out there playing Ace Combat 4. . .
The game is excellent, but I can't get through stonehedge (mission 12). . .
Has anyone completed this mission?
What plane did you use & what strategy did you follow?

I have the game and like it a lot. To beat that level, you have to blow up the 6 or 8(?) structures that make up stonehedge. You can use either missiles or guns to do this. However, the missiles won't lock on to the targets, so you just have to line up the shot right, then just shoot the missiles and hope it hits the targets. I think it takes like 2 missiles to blowup each structure.
I LOVE THIS GAME!!!! This one is a real sleeper, but it's my favorite PS2 game to date. You have to be careful on Stonehenge, because you can't lock anything into missiles and the SAMs are firing at you from every direction. I usually attack as many SAMs on the perimeter of Stonehenge as possible (by lining them up and firing missiles or by dropping bombs on them). Then get into the Stonehenge circle and fly very slowly (just above a stall at ~180) and strafe the Stonehenge cannons with my guns. Each canon will explode. Then I head back to base, swap bombs for air to air missiles and take out the Yellows.
Since there's a pretty serious dogfight at the end, I like to use my SU-37a or F-15 ACTIVE for this mission. What sweet planes!

Thanks for all of the feedback. . . I'll try to get through this level tonight!
By the way, is it me or do the graphics and physics for AC4 seem WAY too real. . . Missions 8, 9, and 10 really show off the power of PS2 when used to its capabilities. . .
And Sunchild, you're right AC4 is a sleeper. . . Namco has released several "sleeper" games with great graphics and gameplay. . . For example, Moto GP was excellent except for the fact that it only had 5 tracks. Moto GP 2 is scheduled to have at least 10 tracks and should be awesome. . .

Here's a follow-up:
I completed mission 12 very easily using the following technique. . .
Purchase the F-117 Stealth Bomber and the Unguided Cluster Bombs that go with it (I believe the same bombs can be purchased for the F-15). . .
Fly at @ 20,000 ft and once over the targets, dive and drop cluster bombs, and go back up to 20,000 ft. . . One cluster bomb will easily wipe-out one of the big guns and you shouldn't need to go reload. . . However, if you do need to reload, you'll have plenty of time. . .
Also, at 20,000 ft, you will be flying well above the missles that are being shot from the guns and most of the yellows won't lock on to you because you're flying "way" high. . .
I'm up to mission 15 and I'm looking forward to finishing the game. . .
Hope this helps anyone else playing AC4. . .

Heh. The F117 seems like a crappy plane once you get the final two planes. Even the Mig29 seems slow and has a mediocre payload. I'm a huge fan of the F-15 ACTIVE and the SU-37a!!! Gotta love those QAAMs on the russian prototype!! It's almost too easy to shoot Yellows down.
And don't forget the details that make this a great game -- the maps and briefings, etc. Also, the menu music is cool and the cartoon cut scenes and all the other little things. This game is so solid.

Sunchild,
You're right. Compared to the F-15 (I haven't flown the SU-37 yet) most of the other planes, including the F-14 seem crappy. . . I can't wait to get the F-22 Raptor. . .
By the way, Mission 14 (shooting down the in-coming cruise missles over the glacier) was great!!!! The night time flight and setting gave the mission a "moon-like feel"
The graphics, soundtrack and voice tracks are truly special. Unfortunately, I don't think most people realize how great this game is. . . Namco definitely has a sleeper on its hands. . .
Hopefully, I can finish the game this weekend so I can get back to GT3 and start F1 2001. . . I'd like to finish GT3 before my next round of must own games hit the market (Blitz, Moto GP2, Knockout Kings '02, and Triple Paly '02, Need For Speed: HP 2) . . .
