Seems about right. From what I understand, this is gonna blow Xbox 360 off the map!

It friggin' better! At those prices I'm hoping this machine can do quite a bit more than just play video games/dvd's.

I wonder if consumers will justify the premium over xbox 360?

From my brothers email to me about 5 minutes ago......

yup - that's pretty high.

also, the "2 hdmi ports for 2 screens" is no longer there - which is funny
cause after sony showed it last year a microsoft techie said it wasn't
possible for them to do 2 screens at 1080p with their hardware.

and the hdmi port is an option only on the $600, amongst others. They put
a "guide button" like the silver one on the 360 controllers, 2 price
points, and did a half assed motion sensor to copy nintendo a little.

The best part so far is that they announced very little in terms of new
games, but it's a long week - yippee metal gear solid 4 and final fantasy
13!

Remember, PS2 promised a bunch of technical wizardry that was left out of the system when it went to market. Hopefully they will not do the same thing this time. I bought a PS2 when it came out but ditched it for an Xbox.

I might still buy a PS3 (doubtful) but my 360 has been lots of fun so far. And will be lots of fun betwwen now and November.

Can't wait for the onslaught of new titles.

Here's my justification... its the least expensive Blu-Ray player on the market and its in my opinion that Blu-Ray will win the next gen DVD format war. The PS3 is Blu-Ray's biggest weapon.

Plus the PS3 will support 1080p.

And as far as games...

Metal Gear Solid 4
Gran Turismo HD
Formula One 06

Of course there are more titles, but for me, these are the main three that I'm looking forward to most. And the PS3 will offer full support of previous PS1 and PS2 games.

I have four xboxes at my house (3 regular, 1 360 and don't ask, I am a nerd) for having people and LANing them for group matches of HALO or Rainbow Six.

Outside of that, trust me, YOU WILL NEVER PLAY YOUR OLD GAMES AGAIN.

They just become so lame, and you still have the old console if you really want to play them.

Next gen graphics make the old stuff look poopy.

Although I am a console whore, and will own both anyway (just like I own PS2 and XBOX)

Here is the pickle....

GTHD is redundant....Ive played them all since the original, and they are VERY repetitive.

Metal Gear....ok, ill bite, I love that series.

Biggest problems....developers. XBOX is VERY easy to develop for, while Sony is one of the hardest (from the mouths of my Activision friends)...thus, many developers dont develop for the PS2/PS3

Since Sony let the PS2 slip, the XBOX fanbase has tripled.

It will take Sony a number of years (close to 3) to develop something thats as good as XBOX live, and probably another 2-3 years (assuming the games are stellar) to start having people converting.

XBOX will drop in price on the release of the PS3....that might put a dent in sales.

I dont doubt the muscle of the PS3 but I doubt everything else. Remeber sega and Atari Jaguar? They were the muscle when they came out, but didnt hold up with the games.

I guess time will tell, and I will buy it anyway, but still dont think it will be better than 360 (technically, it will, but not gameplay)

This of course, is just my strong NYC opinion

I was a big PS2 guy until my bro bought the Xbox and I liked it so much better. Especially with the *cough* modding possibility. It had more adult titles too and less cutesy stuff. I was a hard sell but it it was the better system for me when I gave in and tried it.

These systems are getting so powerful there is very little difference. It comes down to console price, online services, and titles. While I think Gran Turismo is the best racing game series hands down, I am not big into the racing thing.

For me the titles on Xbox are great, the console price was fair, and the online service is going to be the benchmark standard.

Whatever console you pick you are going to miss out on some titles due to console exclusivity, Like Halo for Xbox, or the Jak series for PS2, or Zelda for Nintendo. But overall, you'll find stuff you like for any console.

But for all the Bill Gates Haters, they make a great product, its here now and cheaper. I might pick up another 360 once my basement game room is finished.

For now all my cash is tied up in Wedding stuff.

Thats another issue....there is a point that power means nothing, and games are all that matter. To make my point, in your head, name your favorite games of all time....I can bet good money that MANY of them are from the Nintendo/Genesis/SNES era....graphics or no graphics. Goldeneye for N64 is still one of my favorite games of all time.

Now, these systems are getting SO powerful, that most people simply wont notice. XBOX/PS2 already had beautiful graphics. Didnt slow down (enough to ruin the game) and are massive amounts of fun. There must be a point of diminishing returns when it comes to this stuff. Sure we want to look at pretty lighting and shadows, but that lasts about 20 minutes, until we notice the gamplay is:

repetitive, sucks, boring, glitchy, etc.

On top of that, none of these systems will ever rival PC games and PC power, so if you are a real hardcore games, a dual processor PC and a dual videocard is the only way to go.
