Although I am a console whore, and will own both anyway (just like I own PS2 and XBOX)

Here is the pickle....

GTHD is redundant....Ive played them all since the original, and they are VERY repetitive.

Metal Gear....ok, ill bite, I love that series.

Biggest problems....developers. XBOX is VERY easy to develop for, while Sony is one of the hardest (from the mouths of my Activision friends)...thus, many developers dont develop for the PS2/PS3

Since Sony let the PS2 slip, the XBOX fanbase has tripled.

It will take Sony a number of years (close to 3) to develop something thats as good as XBOX live, and probably another 2-3 years (assuming the games are stellar) to start having people converting.

XBOX will drop in price on the release of the PS3....that might put a dent in sales.

I dont doubt the muscle of the PS3 but I doubt everything else. Remeber sega and Atari Jaguar? They were the muscle when they came out, but didnt hold up with the games.

I guess time will tell, and I will buy it anyway, but still dont think it will be better than 360 (technically, it will, but not gameplay)

This of course, is just my strong NYC opinion
Well technically and on paper, the PS3 blows away the XBox 360, however you are right, its all about the gaming content and I don't think SONY will disappoint. If its one strength that SONY has had over Microsoft is its vast library of games.

In terms of games, I guess it just depends on the person and their preferences. I'm a huge fan of the Gran Turismo and Metal Gear series and I would buy the PS3 just for those two games.

They better not dissappoint. For the $500 I have to shell out, it better last me a few years. Ill just use my 360 for online play, and the PS3 for it's top shelf games.

On a sidenote...

I think Sony made a MASSIVE mistake by letting Microsoft develop online gameplay first. IMHO, its a major blow to Sony. When GT3 was released, they should have had a fully functioning "PS2 Live" so that they can compete. Now, they have to play catch-up....and its a Ferrari Enzo vs Moped race now.....

$500 is not very expesive considering the BluRay and harddrive. 360 is $400 but doesn't have HD. The adapter will be at least $100 so it's a wash. I don't think MS will be dropping their price yet. They will try to release more games (esp Halo) before that happens.

HD is nice, but remember, most households dont have HD monitors yet.

Like I said, there is a point wherea human eye cant tell, and doesnt care about graphics. PS2 and XBOX already looked great on plasmas and LCDs. Never once during my playtime with the two consoles did I wish for better graphics. I did wish for better gameplay.

From a gaming only perspective....XBOX Live is MUCH more of a selling point than HD and BlueRay.

Again, I am not bashing the PS3. I will own one. Plus, I would never bash something that isnt even out yet. Its all about development.

it would be nice to see sony put out more original titles instead of the same great sequels from the PSX console...

all in all, $499/599 for a blu-ray machine is worth it considering a standard blu-ray player is gonna cost $1000+

One it becomes mainstream, and all manufacturers produce it, a Blue Ray player will be $129.99 at your local Target, and about $79.99 online. You and i both know these things plummet like stones in value once they go mainstream.

Any word on how much games will cost? I assume similar to new PS2 games, maybe a little bit more...

I remember when Neo Geo was out and the games were like 3 bills apiece

NEO GEO!!!!!!!!

Now you can get an old modded Xbox to emulate any old Neo Geo game, or arcade game, or old NES game, or N64, or Sega Genesis, or Daphne Laser Disc game............etc.

Emulators are awsome.
