I don't believe $900 either. But based on what's going into the console, $600 to $700 is easily possible.

See, that....with enough evidence I can believe. Economically speaking, selling it for $599 and having it cost $599 to make IS believable, since they will not be making a profit right away, but later down the road they would.

Basically, to rephrase my statement...

I believe they might be breaking even on the units but not taking a loss. Meaning, the most the PS3 could cost them to build is $599, however, I still say its WAY less.

As far as 360 goes? Whats so fancy in there? Its just a PC in a shiny small silver box. A 360 is definetely under 100 to make. Maybe 150 if its manufactured in the US.

The cost of an xbox 360 is still in the $400 area.

Here is just a basic parts run down, and this isn't accounting for everything

motherboard - $40
dvd drive - $15
gpu - $125
cpu - $150
memory - $45

$375... and those are low estimates. The CPU they have in there has 3 symetrical cores... not cheap to manufacture.

regardless, I will be preordering at least two PS3s through my hookups at bestbuy and selling at least one at ebay for a 300% profit

edit: then maybe I'll sell just the box to the one I keep for a cool 1k.

Wait a second....

You are telling me that Microsoft is spending 125 on a GPU and 150 for a CPU?

If we look hard enough, we can probable find them at that price...

Since they are buying MILLIONS of them, you really think it costs them that much?

I would figure at 30 million units, the GPU should be about 60 bucks tops (a 256mb video card today can be had for 80 if you know where to look....and youre not Microsoft)

Just wondering....

Well I whether believe what analysts from Merrill Lynch are saying rather than just pure speculation.

And the XBox 360 costs under $100? Where are you getting your numbers from? Last I read from industry experts, the 360 production costs fall into the $500 to $600 range.

Do you realize the PS3 is going to cost sony $700-$900 in component costs to build? Thats a $200-400 LOSS on every PS3 they SELL. THAT is why the price is so high. The Xbox costs about $500 to build, so MS is losing money on the console sales as well.
true...but they make money on the games

360>ps3

Not as much as you think. I believe Sony actually gets about 5-7 dollars per game.

Out of 49.99

1) 10% marketing/distribution fee
2)10-15% publishing fee
3)25-50% developers cut
4)0-5% licenses
5)0-10% Miscellaneous
6) Sony's cut.

Damn, 5-600 is pretty damn expensive for a game system. Anyway, I don't think this will be blowing xbox 360 off the map, as soon as this is released I bet Halo3 will be coming out.
