Looks like I have one more excuse to buy a 1080p flat panel LCD. My "regular" 1080i isn't gonna cut it anymore

Ok, so if you where set on getting the PS3 when it comes out would you opt for the 20 or 60 gig hard drive?
They already have downloadable movie and game trailers, game demos and are adding an Itunes like downloadable music service so you can download music over Live and zap it right into your Ipod through the port. I am sure Sony will have the same stuff, they all copy each other. It is also supposed to have some photo and video functions.
My Xbox was one of the ones that came out at Christmas that had the free remote. The remote has buttons on it that say "record" and I think "live tv". It would not surprise me to find out they plan to have a Tivo like DVR add on at some time. They are trying to get these things purchased by EVERYONE not just gamers so both systems are to be packed with multimedia functions.
My brother bought a special 360 multimedia remote that allows some serious macro functions, allowing him to control his computer. He hits a button or two on the remote, his tv, stereo, Xbox and computer all fire up and it calls up his entire music collection from his computer hard drive, and starts a party playlist going. Maybe presses two buttons. This stuff is going to be really powerful and cool when all of the future functions come online.
In the future I am sure that 60 gig drive will be way to small.

As far as what drive to get, get the cheaper one.
Much cheaper to stick a 200GB drive in later down the road.
That's assuming that the only difference between the two units is hard drive size. I've seen a lot of rumors that that is not the case. Then it becomes a matter of whether those other features in addition to the extra hard drive space is worth the $100 difference.

Biggest problems....developers. XBOX is VERY easy to develop for, while Sony is one of the hardest (from the mouths of my Activision friends)...thus, many developers dont develop for the PS2/PS3
Something along the lines of the hardware of the Sony will have superior computing power but that the consoles will be judged on what kind of games they deliver and that the 360 was easier to program to get the most out of the machine. Something about the Sony cell processesor being difficult to program for. I am not computer savy so it was all greek to me.
He hinted that the 360 would have the edge but did not say that directly. He did say that his firm would develop for both, and I think the PS2 actually had more developers than the original Xbox because the japanese firms were not thrilled with the console.
I think the game technical qualities will be about equal, it all comes down to what are you favorite titles and game franchises. If its Halo its one, if it is GT4 then its the other. And if you have a grand to blow, its maybe both.

From the spec, I remember that the $599 version will have the 60GB HD, wifi and HDMI output port where as the $499 version will have a 20GB HD, no wifi and no HDMI.
Also, back to game developers....
Im my recent experience, I believe american developers FAR superceeded their Asian counterparts. Sure the japanese have FFantasy, Metal Gear, GT series, but american developers are just making monster after monster of a hit.
IMHO, the japanese will start to lose the war in marketshare.

I wouldn't rush out. It doubtful there will be a lot of 1080p games since only a portion of the PS3 install base will have the HDMI port. AND there no defined standard for 1080p / 60 fps AND it's doubtful that the PS3 can even do 1080p / 60 fps.
Do you realize the PS3 is going to cost sony $700-$900 in component costs to build? Thats a $200-400 LOSS on every PS3 they SELL. THAT is why the price is so high. The Xbox costs about $500 to build, so MS is losing money on the console sales as well.
