Punked a Boxster
Guess I will jump in here, since everyone else has
My general take on things is that you do what you like provided you dont endanger others... I dont know what the traffic was like, so I cant comment on if your action was smart or stupid... keep in mind that if you were doing this and ran into the back of me, I'd break out the big stick first and ask questions later
As for the Boxster... I have a friend that has a 97 Boxster. He got one of the first ones to hit the streets... why did he buy it? For the open air fun... Not because its a Porsche, not to race it, but simply to enjoy the thrill of top down motoring... You could pull up to him in a Geo Metro or a Ferrari 550 Maranello, and he wouldnt race you either way...
bottom line is that while a lot of S2K owners bought their cars for the performance, a lot of Boxster owners DIDNT! There is something to be said about being the "first" on the block... To many people, thats more important than things like 0-60, etc... they like the look of the car and owning something unique (until everyone else gets one!)...
Also, curious why you challenged the Boxster, but ignored the M3... the M3 is closer in performance to the S2000. And you never know, he might have had a turbo or supercharged 95 and would have handed you your lunch...
also, you said:
And, for those of you who don't think being 23 and owning an S2K isn't young, then what did you drive when you were that age, (what 50-60 years ago ahahah) If I wanted an accord, I would've bought an accord.
Well, I payed for (in cash) a 99 Corvette at the age of 24... whats your point? Many people think I stepped down (in raw acceleration, I did)...
you're going to get some flak from everyone now matter where you post... I guess you just cant let it bother you. There are people who just dont have the same ideas you do, and thats just a fact of life...
BTW, I had 1600miles on my Vette when I did my first track day... no ill effects, and you get a lot of craziness out of your system... makes you a lot more tame on the street... After all, whats better than getting out-run in a straight line, but getting all over them in the turns
do the track day, you wont regret it... its not expensive (certainly not any more expensive than if you mess up on the street!)...
After track day, you might find that you dont need to drive it like you stole it
stepping off my soapbox now

Guess I should hop on the wagon here...
I can safely say that I have gone way too fast on way too many roads. I have done some stupid things and have seen things even worse. I don't bash people for racing on the street - I give advice. Be safe and pick your spots well.
I did my first track day with 700 miles on the ticker of the S2000. No problems yet.

I raced a Volvo and a Camaro through the mountains of NC...and not so surprisingly, the Volvo did better than the Camaro. Neither we're a match, and the roads were empty at the time.
I tend to avoid these kinds of races though because its easy to get drawn into the excitement of it all and try to win at all costs- forgetting how much you love your car and how much you rather not smash into the concrete barrier...just because you had to beat the poor guy next to you.
I got propositioned by a 300ZX driving through Knoxville, TN and I rightly ignored it. I didn't want to get my ass creamed by its superior HP and torque, it was a straight freeway, and it was fairly crowded traffic. And of course- who knows what mods he may have had. Had it been the mountains, it might have been a fun battle....but I suspect it still would have pulled ahead without some major curves...
And I did give a decent drag once to one of those special edition Firebirds...fortunately we were already moving :-) I about scared my passenger to death since I gave him no prior warning.
Anyway, next time you think about racing on the freeway, just imagine your sweet paint grinding against the concrete barrier as you swerve to miss a truck changing lanes. That usually settles the competitive feeling in my gut...knowing I'll live another day to drive on some winding roads through the mountains and wash and wax the car once again.

Hey Huyto - Some advice:
Print out this thread. Put it in a box. Open it in ten years. Read it. You will realize that, yes, you were an a-hole back in the day.
It's not so much the speed of your car that bugs me, it's the speed of your lips. Relax.
Read a book. Buy a dog. Trade a few of your Pokemon cards.

Look, bottom line here is racing on the street in conditions where other people are present is not good. The idea of you wanting to during the instance, is very obvious. People around you don't know what your doing so they react with, panic, anger, they misjudge and make mistakes to avoid you and Bang! Their in an accident.
Yes, many of us have ragged on you! I apologize for being so hard on you. Some of us did it to get you to see that you could cause sever injury or death to yourself, or for that matter someone else. It almost did by your own admission. I'm sure that you'd like to see the golden years with some peace. One of the big secrets in life, is to live it to the end without alot of remorse or regret. Everyone, eventually looks back on their life and acesses it's worth. This comes to everyone some sooner or later. No sense in forcing the issue. Agreed? We all act like assholes from time to time. Best advice learn to take it in stride and keep on walking.
