Is Quake 2 abandonware?
I dl'ed the demo when the 10th anniversary of id thread showed up, and I remembered how fun it was to play. Does anyone know if it's abandonware yet or where I could get a copy from?
I'm not sure if you can still buy it new somewhere, but id Software definitely hasn't abandoned it. You can buy Quake 1 and 3 on their website, thought. Plus some of the versions of DOOM too.

Q2 had a much better rail gun than quake 3. There is a delay in quake3's rail gun that q2 doesn't have. Plus it was a one shot 1 kill weapon which made it a good tool against the rocket spammers. Plus the Q2 had he bfg.

I was never a big fan of Unreal... I just didn't like the gameplay... I liked the sporting/hunt aspect of Quake... seemed like it required skill and some strategy(as much as you can in a fps) that I felt the one-shot/one-kill weapons like Unreal detracted from...
The one shot-one kill aspect of the rail gun was by no means an easy kill.... and skill was rewarded.... just my bits...
