Default Question about how to obtain PHOTOSHOP?

I was wondering where u guys who use photoshop get it. Do you buy the program or is there a free version I can download from somewhere. I would really like to use it but do not want to pay the hefty price tags. Any advice would be good.
Thanks
Gregg

if you want it in a legit way, find someone you know in college and have them pick up an education copy there. they're much cheaper.

Have you looked into the GIMP?

Chances are more likely than not it will be more than sufficient to service your needs -- and it's completely $FREE!

I upgraded many years ago from what they called Photoshop LE. Now, I think the product is Photoshop Elements which has most features that you'll find in Photoshop CS.

Elements is about $100, and you can find it bundled with the Photoshop Album which is an image database used to catalog you digital photos. Like Gimp, Photoshop elements will perform well for most work. You won't be able to work in the Lab, or CMYK color spaces and I don't think you can edit 16 bit images.

If you have a registered version of Elements, Adobe sometime offers a special upgrade for about $300 which is about half of retail. Is Photshop CS worth it. In a word: yes. There are many cool new features and the productivity improvments are great.

If you want the Photoshop CS, you'll have to buy a legit copy because of the product activation security feature. the Adobe server will only turn your copy on if you enter a previously un-activated serial number. Of course CS is available for a 30 day trial, but let me warn you - you'll be hooked.

If you can live with version 7, which isn't bad, you can find legit cheap copies all over as old retail stock. Total Training (totaltraining.com) is selling the PS 7 training DVD's for $99 for about 20 hours of training which is a GREAT deal. They also have programs for Elements which will get you off to a good start.

Cheers -
