Default Question about Minidisc to CD recording...

I was just wondering if anyone else has a Minidisc player/recorder and if so, how do you burn regular CD's off of it? My best friend found this clever way to make bootlegs from concerts we go to with his SONY MD Walkman. It's extremely simple, we just plug the headphones into the mic input and use them as a mic. You can't talk durning the show, and you have to stand very still, but it comes out sounding excellent, way better than most bootlegs , the sound is a little thin, but nothing an aural exciter can't fix.

Anyway, I have a CD burner (duh), and Santa Cruz soundcard, but I can't figure out how to burn these songs off of the MD recorder to disc. I'm fairly certain I'll have to put them on my hard-drive somehow and then burn them from there, but I've no clue how to do it. So... If you are a computer, or recording guru, or have a Minidisc recorder/player, please help...

Thanks

Andrew

Have a cd burner on my computer.

But the cd burner deck that you hook up to your audio system is best; makes copies from my MiniDisc deck just like copying from cassettes or LPs.

Plug your MD player into your soundcard and use the Windows Sound Recorder (you are using Windows aren't you?) to record them as 44.1kHz, 16 bit .wav files. You have to select these parameters from the file menu when you start a new file. The interface is crappy and non-intuitive because it's a crude application but it will do the job. If you have some better third party software then use that. If your soundcard has a digital input then use that (but it won't matter at the quality level you're talking about). Once you have .wav files almost all CD burner software will let you arrange them as audio tracks and burn the disc for you.

By the way, there is a better way to do what you are doing. Look up "binaural microphones" on a search engine.

Also, what you are doing is illegal

We just plugged it in and it worked , who knew?

But, you would be surprised, it sounds fantastic, and it's a very efficient way to bootleg. The player/recorder itself is very small, and the headphones give nothing away.

The little speakers in headphones are structuraly very similar to a mic. They both have a diaphram which is small and sensitive enough to pic up sound waves.
