Cops are supposed to follow the Motor Vehicles Act to judge whether or not mods to a car are illegal. Unfortunately, the MVA's guidelines are extremely strict, and basically means that anything you do to your car aftermarket is illegal -- at least in BC.

BC has been in the spotlight since we've had a string of street racing related deaths. What they fail to see is that none of the cars related in these incidents have been modified at all! The conclusion they are drawing (i.e. mod=street racer) is a non sequitir.

Be careful about tinted windows too. Here in AB adding any kind of "opaque glaze" to your front windows and/or windshield is illegal. In addition, the Police have been known to give tickets for undercarriage neons which, since they distract many people, can be considered "stunting" I have seen case law where these tickets have gone to trial and the accused has been convicted.

Be careful!

I would seriously consider challenging ANY ticket given for "illegal modifications" on a car.
