Default Question for married/engaged peeps

Do most of you guys insure your wife's engagement and wedding ring??

I insured my wife's for about a year, but not sure I want to renew.

Without getting into too much detail, I spent xx,xxx on the ring.

It should be covered under your homeowners/renter's insurance.

it's covered by homeowners/renters insurance under contents.

of course for additional premium, you can raise the limits of coverage.

also, keep sales docs for all high-ticket items - be it jewelry, furniture, wardrobe, appliances, A/V equipment, art, etc....

you also need to stipulate whether or not you store "contents" in a detached garage - such as an expensive lanwmower, snowblower, tools etc.

my friend was denied coverage on a lot shit in his garage when his old, wooden detached garage burned down. he had not stipulated the storage location for the garage stuff (i.e. had no contents insurance for garage).

attached garages are not a problem as the garage forms part of the dwelling.

To those with their ring covered under house and contents is it still covered when you leave the house?

I know I'd be getting it covered, if you drop a 10k stone you're gonna have a bad year

^ well, what's gonna happen to it just because she leaves the house?

obviously chicks wear them 24/7....which means when they "go out" too.

Isn't that a pretty simple concept? When she leaves the house she could drop it, catch a prong and lose the rock, lose a shoulder rock from a loose setting, get mugged etc etc.

This is why I'm asking, I would assume that contents insurance would cover it if stored in the home and stolen and not cover misadventure and since as you've pointed out what I thought was clear, they wear them 24/7 coverage of that use would be more important than coverage of theft from home.

With our State Farm policy, each ring is under a separate policy. My agent said that Homeowner's wouldn't cover it out. Same as golf clubs. When I used to leave them in the trunk, I had the clubs insured separately.

I guess it makes sense... why should Homeowner's insurance cover your clubs if you're out at Pebble Beach?

If you think the ring should be covered under Homeowner's when you're out and about... why do you pay for car insurance when you take it out of the garage?

I think Homeowner's would cover a ring from theft inside the house, though.
