Default Question for PS2 owners...

Have any of you PS2 owners had the "disc read error" problem and fixed it yourself? My PS2 has the "disc read error" problem where it won't load games and DVD's and before I go spending $180 on a new one, I was thinking about trying to fix it myself using a procedure like the one from the below link.
PS2

So anybody done it themselves and if so any pointers or tips?

I had that with mine too, and instead of trying to adjust the Laser, I bought another PS2 and did a swap

Mine does that with the blue discs. How does one fix that?

I've had mine since 6 months after the North American release, and I haven't had a single problem apart from a loose A/V plug that was repaired under warranty
