A Question For You All
by law it would be your fault. In the US, people's life is always placed first... even if you were attentive... you would get manslaugther... sucks huh? but thats how it works in the US. You would still have to do time unless it was proved that
1) the girls did it on purpose and were trying to get you in trouble
2) you had witness stating that you had waited for them to cross first for however many seconds you did, but they did not proceed.
if you can prove both.. then they would let you off for manslaughter.. but if not... jail time sucks... hehe. and oh ya.. if you did hit them... no questions asked.. you would be arrested first if they were killed. THEN bail would be set.. then the whole court thingy.. then if you are innocent... $$ money back from the bail. hehe

I'm more familiar with FL law than CA law, but based on FL law:
1) An accident would have been your fault. If you and the pedestrians were travelling in opposite directions and you are making a left turn, you should yield to them just as you would oncoming traffic. If you and the pedestrians were travelling in perpendicular directions, one of you would have had a green light and one a red. Whoever had the red light is at fault in an accidient. There is NO "pedestrians are always in the right" law.
2) There would be no manslaughter charge. A traffic accident is a civil incident, not a criminal one. In order for criminal charges to be brought, you would have to have been engaging in a criminal act (driving under the influence, reckless driving, racing, etc) at the time of the crash. Absent these circumstances, all you would receive is a ticket. The bad news is that you would get your A$$ sued off in civil court.
