Default Questions about shaving for guys

This thread isnt about another thread about genital shaving--but just wanted to see if anyone had any experience with what I'm about to ask....

When I shave, I get razor bumps on my neck--or ingrown hairs when they grow back in--I dont get it as bad as some males do, but at times it can be annoying and look really bad. I've tried stuff like tend skin, and all it does is make the redness disappear quicker, but still looks like shit after I'm done shaving sometimes. I talked to my dermatologist about them and he said to exfoliate my neck every day--I do that and it does help but it doesnt prevent several of them.

My question is this: for the guys out there that have this question, have you thought about waxing your neck or removing the hairs physically from the root? I've really thought to see if waxing would solve the problem, because it would remove the problematic hairs for a few weeks until I'd have to repeat. Has anyone tried this? My only reservations is that it would hurt like hell--any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm sorry if this is a strange thread, but I hate razor bumps from shaving.

Have you tried mach 3? I haven't had the problems you describe but, maybe it's in the genes.

i know this is going to sound funny, but....what color are you? Usually black people get bumps reguardless of what they do.....I know my roommate uses some kind of cream that does something to the hair from keeping it from curling....??
If white, then either change directions in your motion or buy better razors....

I personally just use clippers and keep the rugged marlboro man look.....atleast i like to think so.....

I just got a Norelco 7-series shaver and love it.

I had always used a Mach3 and just hated shaving. Never had any problems, just didn't like taking the time. The Norelco does just as good IMO.

magic shave powder is supposed to be like Nair for your face. haven't tried, it but it supposedly just removes the hair, without shaving.

I used to get all kinds of razor bumps on my neck.

I solved this by either shaving after showering or shaving in the shower. Something about the warm water running over the hair helps it. Also I rub the shaving cream really hard on my neck to try and "stand up" the hairs.

I have found that the type of razor and/or shaving cream does not matter to my face.

I've personally found that using a good razor and shaving cream really helps me. I used to just use whatever kind of shaving cream I had laying around, and it got bad enough that I would get allergic reactions occassionally.

Using Aveeno shaving gel w/ oatmeal has helped for me, a ton. Also switching from cheap disposable razors to a mach 3 turbo has really helped as well.

I also find that like ninethreeeleven said, it helps to shave either in the shower, or right after.

Sharp Razor.

Shave with the hair, not against it.

If I don't follow 1 and 2 I get what you describe.

Laser removal is always an option. My wife had it done to her underadms and legs and loves it.
