The Monk used to smoke for 3 years (started on M Red 100's) before he decided to give it up for Lent. The first 2 weeks were the worst, you did NOT want be around to piss him off. He was smoke free for 2 years. The Monk did started again, but quit once more on Monday this week.

After a week or so the cravings will go away and the need start to dwindle. However the cravings will always come back and the moments of stress will always make you want one.
Here are The Monks tips for staying smoke free.

1. Keep your hands busy Studies show that on top of the addiction to cigz, part of the adiction is based on your hand motions (something to do). Pick up something like a Gameboy or a stress ball. This will keep your hands busy.

2. After a while you will be around other people who smoke you will notice that smell they like rotting flesh.

3. If you do get MAD cravings close your eyes imagine something, I dont care what it is, it could be you and your wife gettin it on. The peek of cravings last 20-30 seconds.

4. Go walking/power walking, the excersise will keep you happy and in a better mood.

Thanks for all the input so far guys (and gals!), I'm up to day 3 and still haven't touched one ... still on the patch however, so ... besides a few odd dreams, all systems go!
Thanks,
Dan

It's been about a year since I quit smoking, I occasionally smoke a few ciggs when I'm drinking. I also quit cold turkey, the main thing is to not think about it keep yourself pre-occupied so that you don't have that tendancy to light up. After that you won't even be thinking about it. The main reason why I quit is that I have a child and thought of it this way, do I want my to be there for my child when she grows up, I don't want to die and leave here fatherless. Think about it, It doesn't just affect you it affects everyone around you.

Good luck! It's great to see so much support.

Here's another thought: every cigarette is 5 less minutes of your life Vteccing!

Yes, I'm still here ... day number 3 was kinda difficult due to some VERY odd personal things. However, still didn't smoke ... frankly I know if I was able to get thru today without lighting up, I'll be fine. Read on for a most interesting story:

I'll use names to protect the GUILTY here:
Jane Doe, an ex girlfriend of mine who I haven't spoken to in 4 months ... who I broke up with 6 months ago, RANDOMLY dropped by my brokerage firm to say hello. Her and I were together for nearly 3 years, living together for almost 2 .... anyways ... that was cigarette worthy in itself, just having her come by.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE ....

Jane tells me that she found out about Karen, a stripper I met on the night Jane and I broke up ... who was a (damn good) rebound for a month or two. Very cigarette worthy indeed ...

NOT DONE YET ...

How did Jane find out about Karen?? Turns out innocent lil' Jane has a nightjob now, which pays entirely in singles!! I was blown away that my ex whom I lived with became a stripper, met the rebound who I left her for .... and now (I guess) has become good friends with.

Still, no smoking. You guys (and gals) warned me day 3 was gonna be tough ... I had no freakin' idea.
Thanks,
Dan

Cigs aren't the be all and end all here, it's not that bad, you're gonna die anyway, might as well have a little niccotine in your system.. seriously though, good luck, just keeping active and busy would be the best remedy, chew gum, etc etc... It's a hard habit to knock, but it can be done...
