rant: i wish the commentators can shut up
OMG.... "Bare-uh-chell-oh" You've got to be kidding me. It was like watching Iron Chef: You know how there's that annoying Bart Connor-sounding guy who's always piping in with some trivial detail... "Sqwee-zan"... same thing with Priestly. I know the guy is juiced up about auto racing and all, but it sounded like a 14 year old kid who was stoked up about his dad's 67 Camaro.
I missed the Speedvision crew desperately... didn't miss Paul Page and Parker Johnstone, though.

Thanks ABC. It's the first televised F1 race I got see all year. At least the first 27 laps of it (the tape ran out and my wife couldn't figure out how to resolve it - what's with women and electronics
). Good thing I went to the race.
What I saw of the TV broadcast, I thought Eddie made a few good points. Jason - if he seems out-of-place and funny to us, imagine what the F1 pit crews must think!
In the end, bad F1 TV is better then no F1 TV.

Personally, I thought that the coverage was excellent and the commentary first-rate.
As for the video, I was impressed with the number and location of the cameras. Through innovative camera work you could not only experience the excitement as the competitors viewed it, but you could watch each individual to evaluate for yourself their technique, and you were given the unique opportunity to observe the competition as they struggled to keep up, to overtake, or to be left in the dust.
The commentary showed unparalleled insight into the sport. The announcers kept you informed of the state of the match at all times, and pointed out subtleties the average viewer might have missed. Their knowledge of the strong and weak points of each team was surprisingly broad, and their ability to maintain their focus and bring you accurate, insightful commentary during the most stressful situations was uncanny. And despite the admitted similarities in livery, they were able to keep all of the teams and the names of their personnel straight. I was in awe.
Oops. This is the USGP thread. I thought we were talking about figure skating. Mea culpa. Mea maxima culpa.

F1 will be a poorer place for him retiring

I agree though, it doesn't seem the same without him....
