Real Chinese Kung Fu... Yikes...
Honestly,
Comparing Karate's katas to jujitu's chokes is just like magazine racing, sounds good on paper but doesn't mean crap in the real world.
Look at the first set of UFC's, pitting strikers, who primarily train to fight strikers, against seasoned grapplers who train to to fight grapplers and strikers. Guess who won? Fast forward a little bit to the Maurice smith (K-1 kickboxer) against Mark Coleman (grappler/shootfighter/jujitsuist?) heavyweight fight. Smith ended up holding off Coleman's submission holds and beating him badly with devestating kicks to the legs. Smith won, and do you know why? Cause he trained 6 months with the Lion den (I think shamrocks crew) and learned some basic grappling. So what does this prove? That grappling is better? If it is then why did this fight end with kicks? Furthermore, if grappling/jujitsu is the ultimate fighting style, then why do ALL GRAPPLERS AND JUJITSUISTS throw kicks and punches? My point is.........the person that is going to win a fight is not going to be the stronger, smaller, faster, or slower guy. It's the person with the most complete training (kicks, punches, grappling, conditioning, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, EXPERIENCE) and the killer instinct. Secondly, to diminish a guy for doing a beautiful kata by stating that all of his years of training and hard work amounts to nothing because one can "slap a choke hold" on him points to some deeply rooted insecurities that only a girlfriend can know

The only reason that people like maurice smith are winning now is because the fights make more money and get more ratings when you have "strikers" as you call them. That is why real wrestling is not near as popular as boxing is. They will not have fights with people like royce gracie, and ken shamrock anymore.

Holy crap Wantone! A simple post like this and you are already ruffling feathers. I guess motorheads need everything tough and exhibiting some physical athletecism is not good enough.
I didn't see it coming, but it looks like you guys who are practicioners of Martial Arts are pretty serious. That's actually very cool because I know of the dicipline it takes. Ron Smith, if you are at any of the get togethers (Like Sunday), I'd love to see your moves!

He's pretty good as well as really fast. If grappler does get a hold of him, he'd get in 5 or 6 shots before he gets taken to the ground. Pretty sure he knows what to do against a grappler. Best martial artist is a well rounded martial artist.
All great martial artist practices a combination of external and internal kung-fu. And there is no physical characteristic that can determine your level of internal kung-fu.
My master is 55+ years of age. Yet one time when he demonstrated a move on me in class, I was stunned for about 2~3sec w/ a touch that made my brain numb. I locked my hands behind my master's neck. All he did was reach back over his shoulders and tap a pressure point a little bellow my ears and next thing I know he was standing in front of me smiling, and my hands were still up in the air close to the locking position. So I definitely don't believe physical prowess = more powerful strike.
Jet Li has to slow his moves down so they can capture it on film. Even some of the really good 3rd and 4th degree black belts at my studio do when we try to film them sparring. And I myself on rare octions achieved that level of speed as well.
