Default Rear windshield shattered

I was driving to work this morning...sitting at a red light and my back windshield just shattered. It was LOUD...scared the piss out of me. I know I wasn't shot at and I wasn't hit. It had to be the temperature. Here in Pittsburgh it was about 28 degrees. I drove about 1 mile and put my rear defrost on and 3 minutes later it shattered.

Insurance took care of it but it would have been about a grand.

this ever happened to anyone?

I was driving my Nissan Pathfinder.

Happened to one of my dads cars once. Not sure what happen, something about a cold day and a dark car in the sun had something to do with it.

Pretty sure that its the "rapid" change in temperature. Maybe turning the defroster on heats it up too quickly? Kind of like the reverse effect where you boil water in a glass container and you drop it into a bucket filled with ice water but not as drastic.
