Recommend me a new place to live
Hello all,
I have one more year of law school to accomplish. I am living in Miami, Fl and I have been here my entire life. I want to leave, ASAP.
Tell me about cool places to live all over this country. I want it to be atleast somewhat of a city, with an opportunity to make a name for myself over a good amount of time.
Issues that I want to know about:
-car related, ie, will mods, etc be a problem, climate issues, etc
-law stuff - how is the industry in that area, if you can answer that
-night life - is there any?
-women - what are they like there? (for example, in Miami, generally materialistic and shallow)
thanks guys

Houston, TX
What makes it great - really really really low cost of living. No state income tax and house prices are dirt cheap. I mean you can buy a 3000 sq ft house in a nice part of town (well suburbs) that's only a couple years old for less than $200,000. Houston is headquarters to more Fortune 500 companies then any other city except for New York. Huge oil and gas industry. Basically, finding a job will not be a problem. Women - there are a lot of latino women.
The bad - weather during the summer, but being from Florida, you're probably used to it. Traffic.

I would just say don't limit yourself to staying in the country. I moved from Canada to the US for a job and it was a good move for me -- I don't know if I'll stay here permanently but it's been a great experience. I would love to live in Europe or Asia for a few years as well.
Your priorities might be different, but I'd hunt for a job first and evaluate the locations second.

Here are my top 3:
Denver - robust economy while still not being a huge city, lots of opportunity, nice change of climate, nice mix of natives and imports in transition.
Charlotte - affordable, pro-active business climate, major finance center for the eastern & southeastern states.
Austin - great nightlife and entertainment scene, good weather, a little on the small side but easy to make great strides in a short amount of time.
Good luck to you - I sometimes wish I had followed my dreams 25 years ago. Instead, I followed my heart and ended up in Cleveland. Not that I'm complaining - I have a great life, great family and this is now home. But there is little opportunity for my kids and I'm sure they will move on. And, every so often, I still think - "what if".

im sort of in the same situation as you.. although im still in college pursuing a Finance degree, i want to move out of LA.. i was considering Denver or Orlando.. only problem with the 2 are the weather extremes. and of course Florida's rep for s2k theft.
yes, I've heard Portland is really nice. Could anyone that lives there tell me more about it.
I could probably live in tampa for a few years before moving. Im going to do my last semester in DC, but that is not the kind of place I want to live in.
Anybody from Denver?
