This is a reminder to register to vote, if you have moved or never registered before. It's part of your civic duty as a citizen, and makes our democracy stroger. Don't be apathetic, everyone gets one vote and you should exercise it.

Search in google for your county + registrar of voters and register today!

This is NOT an invitation for politicking. Just go vote, and let your voice be felt in the election rather than heard in an echo chamber.

I already voted for the Cali November election. Mail in ballot.

Because as long as you check a box, or pull a lever, or stick your ballot in the mail box it doesn't matter how the government is organized? How can you even know if what the politicians put in front of you to vote on is legal if you don't understand the nature of the government you live under?

I can't agree that everyone should just vote and that's fine and people who bring up things like the structure of government are "buzzkills." In an ideal world everyone would be informed and vote - this is not what we have. I am absolutely not saying people should not vote, I'm saying that people who don't take the time to actually understand what they are voting on and how it relates to the structure of the government they live in don't make things better.
yeesh, ok ok so I used a shorthand word in common usage instead of the technically correct descriptors for the form of american government. I'm fully aware of the distinction between a traditional form of direct democracy and a constitutional republic. Believe me, I live in the land of the direct-democracy ballot initiative, one of the worst things ever to befall my state. I was just cracking a joke.

You're probably right that it's better to have people stay home from the polls if they aren't willing to put in the time and energy to think about the consequences of their choices. I'm not advocating that citizens should vote haphazardly. Becoming informed is part-and-parcel of the duty to vote.

^ It was more the flippant "buzzkill" response that got me thinking perhaps this guy is literally voting to get high? Ok might sound stupid but you can't tell me people are not running around voting for things that sound like good ideas because it makes them feel better; that would be voting to get high for sure.

Sometimes interpreting things super literally is a curse!

^ I hate it - my county moved to all mail ballots. Call me funny, I like going to a polling place, talking to the helpers, shoving my ballot in a machine and watching it get dropped in a box.

As I recall Canada even counts every vote by hand still; that is a commitment to quality!

Please note that the OP was only talking to smart people. Dumb people shouldn't be allowed or encouraged to vote. Or reproduce for that matter.

I like to carry batons and stand outside of polling places spouting racist phrases. from what I hear its not voter intimidation.

^ I'm trying to find a point or idea to get from that but I'm failing. Can you elucidate?
