Requesting College Transcripts...
I hope somebody can help me with this....Okay, here's the deal:
My old school (Computer Learning Center) closed down a while back, so all of their student records and transcripts went to the Department of Education (or so I was told). Now, I'm attending a new school but they're trying to screw me out of financial aid money because they say they haven't found my transcripts from my old school. They say they've turned in a request to have the records found, but it's been about six months now and nothing! So I'm wondering if there's a way to request the transcripts myself. I figure I have a right to them, seeing as how they're MY records, right?
Any help would be appreciated....Thanks in advance!!!

Was Computer Learning Center a non-accredited school? If so, then I wouldn't be so sure that they actually turned your records over to the Department of Education. That sounds like it might be BS. Non-accredited institutions are generally privately run and can more or less do whatever they want.
Without knowing anything else about the situation, my guess is that Computer Learning Center lied about giving your transcript to the Department of Education, then closed, pocketed whatever money they could, and disappeared.
Of course, if they are an accredited school, then none of this applies. Btw, are there are Computer Learning Centers still open, or did the whole thing go defunct?

Anyways, I found the office that keeps the records for CLC. It's called the Bureau for Private Postsecondary & Vocational Education. Even their voicemail system says "We are currently custodians for school records from Computer Learning Centers....."
I'm probably going to drive up there (it's in Sacramento) and pick up the transcripts. The weather's been nice lately, so I guess a road trip is in order....
