Too bad the homeowner didn't kill both of them.

Yeah dude, I mean hoenstly, they both should've gotten shot.

Maybe the fact that the resident DID NOT shoot the woman will give him leniency in the case of him killing the guy who broke into his house and endangered his life.

A cop once told me if I ever had to shoot an intruder on my property make sure to drag his body inside the house before I call the cops.

Maybe unpopular, but what if the facts showed that the robbers broke in, got in a struggle, dropped the gun and ran out. The homeowner then picked up the gun, ran after them, and shot one to death while he ran away, then exclaimed "That's what you get for breaking into my house."

We live by the rule of law, and the rule of law says that you can only use deadly force to defend yourself against imminent threat of serious bodily harm or death. If the robbers were running away when the homeowner shot at them, I don't think it's reasonable to say that at that time the shooter reasonably believed his life was still in danger.

Most states have different laws directly on-point, but there is a huge difference between using force in a home to defend yourself, and using force on someone fleeing the scene, who no longer poses an imminent threat.

P.S. The comments on his myspace page are obscene. As you said, sometimes bad things happen to bad people, and it's not the police or the media who prompted this guy to break into a house with a gun in broad daylight.
