I asked this question on a mail list I subscribe to and got loads of references. But many of these references mention cases of doing the mod and the Mac not restarting. Ever.

I will summarise the results from the emails I received and post them here as well as on the mail list.

heres a link with some user feed-back (so people that have done it already)
http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems/ibook_d...s.html#storytop

the original site of the guy who figured this out is http://macparts.de/ibook

so far it's working for a lot of people and killing a few peoples, if you're out of warranty i wouldn't try it. but something to consider if you have the cajones as they say...

loki, looks like it won't work with the iMac 15, sorry. the newer iMac 17 with GeForce4MX is still a maybe.

on a related apple topic, anyone have a power supply for a 7200/7600? i found one in the trash. I think it's just a power supply issue and don't want to drop too much money trying to fix it.

Only those with the new GeForce4MX chip should try it. If you have one of these you are still in warranty (n'est pas?).

mgiang7 - I expect I have a suitable PS if you don't find one locally. I had a bunch of 7250's die on me at one stage and I don't think I've thrown them out yet.
