Default Is it rude to NOT talk about yourself?

People,

I was just thinking of something that has been happening more and more frequently in my life, and figured who better to assess it than the OT forum! Whenever I meet new people anymore, we seem to always end up talking about stuff going on with them. Normally, I would not take objection to this, but it's getting to the point where nobody I meet knows anything about me because of that fact. I almost feel bad interrupting them to talk about me because I think it makes me look like a douche bag. Then I began thinking if I'm relying on the other person to carry the conversation too much, it may be considered socially rude. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

There's only so much you can do... I mean if you ask a person a question, most of the time it's because you also want to be asked in return. Example: How was your day? You would think when the person is done speaking about their day, they would ask you how yours was. It could be the person is just rude and doesn't care about your stuff.

BTW the Weed comment is just plain dumb. Shouldn't need a drug to hold a good conversation.

I think it's really about balance...

You have to show interest in them but at the same time portray yourself as someone that they would want to get to know. Don't be a closed book or you might appear standoffish.

I personally like hearing about other people and their lives. But then again, I'm the type of person that walks down the street and every person that passes me, I think to myself that each and every one of them has a story to tell.

Do you feel uncomfortable in social situations or meeting new people?
