Is it rude to NOT talk about yourself?
I wouldn't say it's rude. If the other person never says, enough about me, what about you, they love to talk about themselves. If they want to know about you, they'll ask. That's what I do.

Are you talking social like girl & guy at party or bar?
Professionally I can say i've sat through dozens of hours of sales training courses where the whole point is to train a young exec to keep the conversation on the customer. In the old days it was opposite. The pupose being if you can get a business customer to reveal his/her problems or shortcomings you can play to that and high-profit business always comes out of that "perceived" need.
Right outta college my sent me to Jedi mind-training to smack the "me-focus" compulsions right out of me. It works.
