You don't know that. You met her? You read the police reports? You know for a fact she is purposefully lying? I didn't see any evidence of that in the video. All we actually "know" is what we saw in the video.

We have no idea what she did or didn't see. It's a known fact that people make mistakes, don't even realize it, and it doesn't make them worthy of being called an expletive here.

 

In the Reddit thread, the person driving the car indicated that woman driving tried to lay the blame on him and the cops were buying her story until he produced the camera footage.

He didn't goose anything (he actually slows down a couple mph), he was less than 100' from the intersection and well within the law to clear the intersection. The light was still yellow when he was crossing the intersection and most likely would not have been red until after he cleared the intersection. Yellow lights don't automatically mean you have to stop, according to the state laws there, he was free to proceed.

She full on blew a red light that wasn't going to be green for at least another 4 seconds minimum. The video is available in 1080p if you want to see details.

Just because she believes she had the green light (and therefore believed the other guy ran a red) doesn't mean she is deliberately lying. She could honestly believe she saw her light as green. She would be mistaken, but it doesn't mean she is willfully lying. She will be held responsible for the accident, as she should be according to the facts of the case, and that is why I am an advocate of dashcams. Dashcams can be played back time and again so we can analyze, review, and slowly focus on details which in real life get completely missed or mistaken in a split second view. Everyone makes mistakes and it's pretty common that those mistakes are completely honest ones.

As an aside, for those considering dashcams, it's best to mount them on the windshield so traffic signals are never obscured from view by parts of the car.
