One time when driving the rear end came out on me going straight while in 3rd. STRAIGHT. Not accelerating either. Keeping the revs below 4K.

It had stopped raining 20min. earlier. There was no standing water.

Rear end just decided to come out. This was one of those times where it terrified me to own the car. I just couldn't believe what had happened.

I took the rear wheels off of the car and then did a full tread depth measurement across the entire tire. Low and behold the insides (due to alignment) had just worn past 50% with the driver rear tyre going even further than that. The tyres had been flipped once before.

Long story short I replaced them with a more wet focused tyre.

Stop reading here if you don't want to read another review of Kuhmo SPTs. If your bored keep on reading.

When in a down pour i still limit the speeds to 0-40mph. In a down pour with the car's new tyres it's visibility and the common sense of other drivers that I limit the speeds to the range just listed.

I can tell you that not once has my rear end come out with the SPTs.

Even during acceleration upto 55 during a downpour. I've driven buck wild with the SPTs in the rain and again, no hydroplaning or rear end coming out. There is so much tread depth on these tyres...thats why they have a good wear rating.

If you need a DD tyre, get a set of SPTs.

If your really scared get a set of 712s. You will never ever be scared of the rain again.

There are plenty of other tyres you can get that do much better in the rain, especially ones that still do well while worn at the 50% mark. As I said before, you might want to think about investigating this alley.

Ehh, its either bald tires or the driver. In more cases, its the driver. I drove my car hard in the rain and never once did the rear come out during that time. The only time my rear came out was during snow and my dumb@ss was on S02's with less than 50% tread. There was a good 3-4 inches of snow on the ground. I got home safely and i did drive with traffix.

There are certain things to remember when you drive in the rain. All your inputs must be smooth and very smooth. This includes acceleration, braking, and turning. Acceleration and braking must be very gradual. Any abrupt movement will cause a car imbalance and lead to the rear coming out. Its all about being smooth and balance.

Get rid of the Bridgestones..... and get these..

Goodyear Eagle F1 G3-D3 I have them on my car, and you will NEVER have to worry about rain again. They grip better in the wet than most tires grab in the dry...Amazing tires.

Kinda suprising that it works well in wet even without water channels

Anyway, how's the tread life on these?

he started oversteering because the rear wheels did not have any traction since it was up in the air. then he countersteered coz he forgot that he had an AWD, so since the front still had traction, it pulled him and his car to the direction he countersteered... right into the center divide. then since the road had a grade, when he let go of the brake to asses the damages, his car rolls back and his rear bumper and tail light get messed up.

i'm not gettin AWD... i'm scared of it now

What's really fun is driving from Daytona Beach, Fl to Pa with cords showing on the inside. Especially when it pours the whole way through Georgia. The trick is to drive FASTER to get away from the rain.

The life is a little better than the S02s, not much but a little. However, they are waaaaaayyyy better tires than the Bridgestones. I have the F1s and drove in a heavy rain Sunday morning (had no choice) and though I was nervous driving the S in the rain, I never felt scared on the F1s. I had great traction. I still don't like driving the S in the rain, but I'm not as worried on the F1s as I would be on the S02s.
