S2k property taxes...any horror stories?
Here in Chicago, the sales tax is 8.75% (6.5-7.5% state tax, I think, + county tax + city tax), so that's $2000-$3000 for the S2000.
No vehicle property tax, but anually, we pay $78 for vehicle registration, and $75 for a "city sticker" if you live in Chicago.
One thing to keep in mind though is that property taxes for vehicles (if it's based on the value of the vehicle) is federally tax deductible, registration fees are not.

In PA Sales tax is 6% for all goods, including cars - EXCEPT there is no sales tax on food or clothing in PA. (Well, there is 6% sales tax for food you order at a resturant, but no sales tax on food you buy at the grocery.)
PA State income tax is a flat 3.07% rate.
Annual auto registration stickers in PA is $35. We do have annual auto inspections too which is typically around $20, unless you happen to live in a county that has emissions - then it's $50 more annually.

Let's see... In Texas:
No income tax
8.25% sales tax
Except for cars, it's only 6.25%
In Dallas County, property taxes are:
City - 0.72%
School - 1.67%
County - 0.21%
Community College - 0.08%
Hospital - 0.25%
So an average $200k home (just land and improvements, vehicles are not part of the equation) would cost $5,865 in taxes every year.
Homestead exemptions are available however, which drops the tax liability by a good bit. (20% perhaps I think?)

just curious how property taxes vary from state to state, city vs. county, etc.
i live in SC - but in the county (not in the city limits). therefore, i only have to pay county property taxes and don't get hit for the add'l taxes for living in the city limits. this is a great thing - i sure as hell hope i don't get annexed anytime soon.
anyways, for the MY04 - my taxes ran $544.71. i know that SC is supposedly a relatively high property tax state - at least a far as vehicles are concerned. this is due partly in fact (i assume) because drivers in SC are not required by law to carry auto insurance.
anyone live nearby (or far away) and recently pay property taxes on their MY04? or remember when you paid them for the first time on your S?
i am somewhat relieved - i expected the amount to be a good bit higher. taxes on my '02 RSX-S in 2003 were about $500.00!

Oh, and driving without insurance in SC IS against the law.

uncle sam's gonna get you one way or the other.
i think i'll do some research and see how many of the 50 states have vehicle property taxes....
Car Tax in California was as high as 2% few years ago, in addition to registration fee of about $45. You pay this Car Tax every year, not the sale tax you only pay one when you buy a car. After Terminator became Governor, the Car tax is reduced to about 0.5% now.
Yeah personal property taxes suck but it also keeps real property taxes low. I used to live in SC from 1977-1990. Owned a house the last six years and real estate taxes were pretty low compared to what I pay here in Michigan, app. 2400 on house. Then I paid 100 for the license plate on my 16 year old car and 150 or so on the 04 RSX-s. Plus when we purchase a car the 6% sales tax is applied on the full amount, so if you pay 25000 for a car you also pay an addition 1500 in sales tax. When I lived in SC tax was capped at 300 max. for a purchase like a car.
