Default S2k property taxes...any horror stories?

just curious how property taxes vary from state to state, city vs. county, etc.

i live in SC - but in the county (not in the city limits). therefore, i only have to pay county property taxes and don't get hit for the add'l taxes for living in the city limits. this is a great thing - i sure as hell hope i don't get annexed anytime soon.

anyways, for the MY04 - my taxes ran $544.71. i know that SC is supposedly a relatively high property tax state - at least a far as vehicles are concerned. this is due partly in fact (i assume) because drivers in SC are not required by law to carry auto insurance.

anyone live nearby (or far away) and recently pay property taxes on their MY04? or remember when you paid them for the first time on your S?

i am somewhat relieved - i expected the amount to be a good bit higher. taxes on my '02 RSX-S in 2003 were about $500.00!

One day my wife won $2k from the casino we went home and checked the mail. I received a letter saying my property taxes have not been paid. I learn my newly refi-ed loan was not bonded, ie no property taxes included. During the time it took me to make a few phone calls to the assessors office and loan people my wife called her best friend telling her to get ready for a day of shopping. Well, I had to break the news that I needed her winnings, along with another $2k to pay for 6 months of taxes. Talk about a let down.

not true in NC/SC - you still have to pay property taxes whether the vehicle is a lease or a purchase.

sales tax on vehicles has a $300 cap in SC...it's 3% of the sales price in NC though.
so lets say you paid $31000 for a new S - thats $930 in NC, but only $300 in SC

geez - i guess i need to move to a state with no property taxes! the taxes on my '00 teg were $174 this year...

but - for those of you with no vehicle property taxes - what sales tax % do you pay on normal purchases (food, clothing, etc)? SC is 5%, i think NC is 7.5%

nv - registration is $12.00 per year...and no vehicle inspection either hello straight pipe and bye bye catalytic converter!
