Indy cars are roll cages on wheels and people walk away from 200mph accidents. It all depends on the quality of design.
Since it does not have doors it is without side impact door beams which every car company seems to think is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I got ten brouchures right here and they ALL mention them. Whoopie.

It's pretty much a roll cage on wheels,
My friend's dad just got one and I actually got to sit in it. It fits you pretty snug, more than an S2000 seat, and it doesn't feel like you have very much room to move because the seats literally hug your sides making it impossible to move around. The side beams go up pretty high doesn't seem as if they'd protect you very much, if not at all. I honestly don't know how people get it to go over 60 mph without wetting themselves; it feels as if you're going 120 in those things.

It also depends on what you hit. I don't think roll over or impacts is the issue you should be worried about, the car looks designed well enough to hit most things. What you should be worried about is other car hitting you. The car is lower then bumpers of most SUV's and trucks. Imagine if a F150 rear ended you in traffic. Or even sadwitched between two trucks/suvs?
Safer than a bike, more dangerous than a car. Don't think you'd ever get sandwiched between two trucks... most likely you'll be decapitated as you go under them.
Hey, at the very least if you get in an accident, you'll do what your screen name proclaims...
