Default same skydive, just 100x more dangerous

the next step for this guy is to have someone throw is parachute out the plane, then he jumps out and tries to catch it before either of them hit the ground

in the meanwhile, check this vid out: good grip

That guy's got big brass balls. And apparently they're all in his head.

[cynic] The guy is strapped to the chute the whole time, that's why when he switches from his hands to his feet it skips the transition. I've also heard that he wears a smaller chute under his shirt but I doubt it in this case. [/cynic]

I bet yah he's wrapped himself in there like a bull rider wraps his hand into the strap on the back of a bull. You ever see videos of a bull rider getting his hand caught in the reigns of a bull and he pretty much turns into a rag doll when he can't get off? Same thing here.

He is not the first, I have seen similar idiocy flying out of Estrella in Arizona -- a large sailplane base as well as jump base. You have to be a bit stupid to jump out of plane in the first place ....

Greg Gasson is famous in the skydiving community for building strange rigs to allow him to hang under his chute in different ways. As far as I know, he ALWAYS has straps attaching him to his chute so he can't fall. Opening forces are very hard when the chute deploys and it would be extremely difficult to hold on. In the case where he is hanging on by one arm, I believe there was an article in the Parachutist magazine a while back showing how he did it. He was wearing a full harness (leg straps, chest strap, shoulder straps) under his clothes with an extra piece of webbing running up his sleeve. I expect that the jump where he is hanging by his feet was a different jump - maybe that same day.

Pretty cool stuff. But he was staying safe the whole time. Err.... well, as safe as you can be skydiving.
