San Diego High School Shooting
Please don't anyone bring up the gun debate!
We have high school shoutings! Headline reads "1 ashen faced, 14 upset".
Sorry if I'm making light a very tragic subject, but the way things are going stateside just amazes the hell out this little antipodean.

That's a tragic thing
I for one will not bring up the gun issue, as in the "peacfull" country of Canada there have been shootings like crazy lately. All in the days leading up to the Olympic commitee's arrival. What's going on in the world?

No guns req'd.
It's easier to argue about guns then it is to point the finger at the human mind. It's hard for most to accept that there are very disturbed people around. Until the focus is on how to recognize and help them, we're in for more and more of the same.

The gun was simply the tool. It could have been a bomb or knife of whole range of other weapons. The problem, as lako said, is the people and not the weapon of choice. This guy would be a psycho with or without a gun. This will continue until the real problem is addressed. These things happen everywhere, not just the US. I remember a shooting in a school in Scotland several years back.

Borneo! Please, can't we restrict the comparisons to 1st world countries where human rights is a considered issue.
Canada, that's a real shame about all the shootings.
Australia has it's share of gun related violence and other forms of violence as well. Just last week there was a fatal shooting as a result of road rage within earshot of where my Sister, Bro'inlaw and 1yo nephew live, and virtually outside my mum's door.
And I think we still hold the record for most number of people killed in a single gunman massacre (Port Arthur - Tasmania).
But you guys get the prize for the most "nutter goes postal takes handy high powered rifle and take pot shots at school kids" award. I'm sure plenty of emotionally disturbed people here have got up one morning, fed up with life, decide to end it all and take some company with them, reached down for the UZI...... Whoops, don't have an UZI...... Ah stuffit, I'll just go have a rant on S2000online instead then.
Ahh, but that would be restriction of the constitution. The inalienable right to be gunned down at Math class.
