I was born in San Franciso, lived on Lombrad Street, I'm bias towards SF. Been to Chicago a couple of times, its ok but its not SF.

I need to move back to Cali one day...

here you go from a sports perspective:

A's or Giants vs Cubs or White Sox (SF wins)
Sharks vs Blackhawks (SF wins)
9ers or Raiders vs Da Bears ( close one here but I think SF has more championships)
Warriors vs Bulls (close one here as well but CHI has more championships)

climate perspective I don't think you can match SF with the ability to have so many different climates within driving distance. As far as the people.... generalizing isn't really going to get you anywhere as there are always pockets and niches and you just figure whatever you fit into, there will be the same.

You might be able to bring up Sinatra for Chicago, but it's not like Tony Bennet is all that much of a slouch either.

That puny list up there isnt nearly as much that has been mentioned, and is still longer then SF's. Not to mention these things arent just popular locally, they are known nationwide, and worldwide!

Lower Wacker! (Ever tried doing WOT down there? The way the engine sound reverbarates is awesome)

On that note, another (possibly unique) feature I like about Chicago is how part of it is double layered.
